【Characteristics】 This product is a off-white to pale yellow powder.
[Pharmacological Actions]
Pharmacodynamics: Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a spectrum of activity similar to that of kanamycin. It exhibits potent antibacterial activity against most Gram-negative bacilli, including Escherichia coli, Proteus, Salmonella, and Pasteurella multocida, and is also relatively effective against Staphylococcus aureus. However, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria (except Staphylococcus aureus), rickettsiae, anaerobic bacteria, and fungi are resistant to this agent.
Pharmacokinetics: Neomycin is poorly absorbed when administered orally or topically; after oral administration, only about 3% of the dose is excreted in the urine, with the majority being eliminated unchanged in the feces. Absorption may increase in the presence of intestinal mucosal inflammation or ulcers. When given by injection, neomycin is rapidly absorbed, and its pharmacokinetic profile is similar to that of kanamycin.
[Drug Interactions]
(1) When used in combination with macrolide antibiotics, it can treat mastitis caused by Gram-positive bacteria.
(2) Oral administration may affect digitalis drugs, vitamin A, or vitamin B. 12 Absorption.
(3) Exhibits a synergistic effect when used in combination with penicillins or cephalosporins.
(4) This product exhibits enhanced antibacterial activity in alkaline environments; when used in combination with alkaline drugs (such as sodium bicarbonate, aminophylline, etc.), its antibacterial efficacy is increased, but its toxicity is also correspondingly heightened. However, when the pH exceeds 8.4, its antibacterial effect is instead diminished.
(5) Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Na + , NH 4+ and K + Cations can inhibit the antibacterial activity of this product.
(6) Concurrent use with cephalosporins, dextran, potent diuretics (such as furosemide), erythromycin, and other agents may enhance the ototoxicity of this product.
(7) Skeletal muscle relaxants (such as succinylcholine chloride, etc.) or drugs with similar effects may enhance the neuromuscular blocking action of this product.
[Functions and Uses] Aminoglycoside antibiotics. Primarily used to treat gastrointestinal infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria to which the organism is susceptible.
【Usage and Dosage】 Based on this product. For mixed drinking: 0.15–0.23 g per liter of water for poultry. Use continuously for 3–5 days.
[Adverse Reactions] Neomycin exhibits the greatest ototoxicity among aminoglycosides, yet systemic or topical administration rarely elicits toxic reactions.
[Precautions] Chickens raised for egg production may not be used during their laying period.
