【Characteristics】 This product is a white or off-white powder.
[Pharmacological Actions] Pharmacodynamics: Colistin is a polypeptide antibacterial agent and an alkaline cationic surfactant. It exerts its bactericidal effect by interacting with phospholipids in the bacterial cell membrane, penetrating the membrane, disrupting its structure, and thereby altering membrane permeability, ultimately leading to bacterial death.
This product exhibits potent antibacterial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, including aerobic bacteria, Escherichia coli, Haemophilus spp., Klebsiella spp., Pasteurella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella spp., and Shigella spp. Gram-positive bacteria are generally not susceptible. It displays complete cross-resistance with polymyxin B, but no cross-resistance with other antimicrobial agents.
Pharmacokinetics: Orally administered doses are poorly absorbed, whereas non‑gastrointestinal routes of administration result in rapid absorption. Once in the body, the drug is rapidly distributed to the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and skeletal muscles, but it penetrates the cerebrospinal fluid, pleural cavity, joint cavities, and sites of infection with limited efficiency. The primary route of elimination is renal excretion.
[Drug Interactions]
(1) Concurrent use with neuromuscular blocking agents, such as muscle relaxants and aminoglycosides, may cause muscle weakness and respiratory arrest.
(2) It exhibits a synergistic effect with chelating agents (EDTA) and cationic detergents against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and is often used in combination for the treatment of localized infections.
[Functions and Uses] Polypeptide antibiotics. Primarily used to treat gastrointestinal infections in pigs and chickens caused by Gram-negative bacteria.
【Usage and Dosage】 Based on this product. For mixed drinking: 0.4–2 g per liter of water for pigs, 0.2–0.6 g per liter of water for chickens; for mixed feeding: 0.4–0.8 g per kilogram of feed.
[Adverse Reactions] No adverse reactions have been observed when used as directed.
[Precautions]
(1) Chickens raised for egg production shall not be used during the laying period.
(2) Do not use continuously for more than one week.
[Withdrawal Period] Pigs and chickens: 7 days.
