【Characteristics】 This product is a pale yellow granule (10%); this product is an off-white powder or granule (50%).
[Pharmacological Actions]
Pharmacodynamics Gymnemycin is a macrolide antibiotic with an antibacterial spectrum similar to that of erythromycin, and its mechanism of action is identical to erythromycin’s. Susceptible Gram-positive bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin‑resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, streptococci, Bacillus anthracis, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria, Clostridium perfringens, and Clostridium septicum, among others. Susceptible Gram-negative bacteria comprise Haemophilus influenzae, Neisseria meningitidis, and Pasteurella, among others. In addition, it exhibits good activity against Mycoplasma. Its antibacterial efficacy against most Gram-positive organisms is slightly inferior to that of erythromycin; its activity against Mycoplasma is comparable to that of tylosin; it is also effective against certain Gram-negative bacteria, Rickettsia, and spirochetes; and it demonstrates superior activity against penicillin‑resistant Staphylococcus aureus relative to both erythromycin and tetracycline.
Pharmacokinetics It is well absorbed after oral administration, reaching peak plasma concentrations within 2 hours. It is widely distributed throughout major organs, with particularly high concentrations in the liver, lungs, kidneys, and muscles, often exceeding plasma levels. It is primarily eliminated via the hepatobiliary system, with high concentrations found in bile and feces. A small fraction is excreted by the kidneys.
[Drug Interactions]
(1) Girotomycin should not be used concurrently with other macrolides, lincosamides, or chloramphenicol, as they share the same site of action.
(2) When used in combination with β-lactams, an antagonistic effect is observed.
[Functions and Uses] Macrolide antibiotics. Used to treat infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, mycoplasmas, and Leptospira, among others.
【Usage and Dosage】 Calculated on the basis of this product.
Mixed feeding: 10%; per 1,000 kg of feed, for pigs 800–3,000 g (80–300 million units); for chickens 1,000–3,000 g (100–300 million units), administered continuously for 5–7 days.
50%, per 1,000 kg of feed: for pigs, 160–600 g (80–300 million units); for chickens, 200–600 g (100–300 million units), administered continuously for 5–7 days.
[Adverse Reactions] Following oral administration, animals may develop dose‑dependent gastrointestinal disturbances (such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain), with a lower incidence than that observed with erythromycin.
[Precautions] Prohibited during the laying period of egg-laying hens.
[Withdrawal Period] Pigs and chickens: 7 days.
