[Main Ingredients] Tylosin
【Characteristics】 This product is a white to pale yellow powder.
[Pharmacological Actions]
Pharmacodynamics Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic exclusively for veterinary use, with potent activity against mycoplasmas. Its antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of erythromycin; susceptible Gram-positive bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin‑resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus species, Bacillus anthracis, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium perfringens, and Clostridium septicum, among others. Susceptible Gram-negative bacteria comprise Haemophilus spp., Neisseria meningitidis, and Pasteurella spp. Resistance may develop in susceptible organisms; notably, Staphylococcus aureus exhibits partial cross‑resistance to both tylosin and erythromycin.
Pharmacokinetics Tylosin is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after oral administration, whereas tylosin phosphate is poorly absorbed. Following absorption, tylosin is widely distributed throughout the body; organ concentrations after injection are 2 to 3 times higher than those after oral administration, but it does not readily penetrate the cerebrospinal fluid.
[Drug Interactions]
