[Pharmacological Actions]
Pharmacodynamics Tilmicosin is a semi‑synthetic macrolide antibiotic intended for veterinary use. It exhibits strong activity against mycoplasmas and has antibacterial efficacy comparable to tylosin. Susceptible Gram‑positive bacteria include Staphylococcus aureus (including penicillin‑resistant strains), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus spp., Bacillus anthracis, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium perfringens, and Clostridium septicum, among others. Susceptible Gram‑negative bacteria comprise Haemophilus spp., Neisseria meningitidis, and Pasteurella spp. Tilmicosin demonstrates greater activity than tylosin against Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida, and mycoplasmas of livestock and poultry. Furthermore, 95% of hemolytic Pasteurella strains are susceptible to this product.
Pharmacokinetics Following oral administration, it is rapidly absorbed, characterized by strong tissue penetration and a large volume of distribution (exceeding 2 L/kg). It achieves high concentrations in the lungs, with an elimination half-life of up to 1–2 days, resulting in prolonged maintenance of effective plasma drug levels.
